the CranioSacral System EXPLAINED

When elements of trauma overwhelm our bodies, the tissues often "freeze" to contain and encapsulate the damage. This encapsulated energy can be effectively released through Craniosacral therapy.

The connective tissue and fascia form a mechanical continuum, extending throughout the human body - even into the innermost parts of each cell. All the great systems of the body - the circulatory, the nervous system, the muscular-skeletal system, the digestive tract and the various organs - are encased in connective tissue. All movement of the body as a whole, or of it's smallest parts, are created by tensions carried through this connective tissue 'fabric'. Each tension, each compression, each movement, causes the crystalline lattices of the connective tissues to generate bio-electric signals that are precisely characteristic of the needed tensions, compression and movement.

The fabric itself is a semi-conducting communication network that can convey the bio-electric signals between every part of the body and every other part. As these signals flow through the tissues, their bio-magnetic counterparts extend the stories they tell into the space around the body.

The mechanical, bio-electric and bio-magnetic signals travelling through the connective tissue network, and through the space around the body, tell the various cells how to form and reform the tissue structure in response to your body's tensions, compression and movements.

What is CranioSacral Therapy?

Craniosacral Therapy was developed by Doctors of Osteopathy looking for a gentler and more effective treatment. The therapist gently manipulates and releases your Craniosacral System, which includes the soft tissue of the head (Cranium), the spine down to its tail end (The Sacral Area) and the pelvis. Craniosacral Therapy focuses particularly on irregularities in the flow of the cerebrospinal fluid, an key part of our nervous system.

The movement of this spinal fluid within and around the central nervous system is believed to create a vital body rhythm, equally important to health and well-being as the beating of the heart or your breath. The Therapist uses specific techniques of alignment and adjustment to engage the body's own corrective mechanisms to release restriction in the connective tissue, fascia and dural tube. Over time, a chain reaction of release follows – this gentle and subtle touch facilitates fundamental changes safely from the inside out!

How Does It Work?

Our bodies respond to trauma, physical illness and stress by contracting tissues around the body to encapsulate damage and limit its spread. When the shock of trauma, illness or stress is severe enough the injured tissue remains contracted long after the event and proper tissue function can become restricted over time. This restriction results in problems such as headaches, neck and back pain, anxiety and depression or digestive disorders.

Craniosacral Therapists are trained to identify areas of congestion or restriction and their causes, then aid in the release of these tensions. As tension and contraction are release from the body, the energy it was using to hold itself in contraction also becomes released, resulting in improvements to everyday well-being, reduced stress and anxiety, better quality sleep, increased energy and enhanced performance of your essential organs.
